OK, if you are anything like me, you probably have never read nor have any idea where your iPhone 4 instructions are (come on, I’m a guy, enough said), but one thing that has frustrated me to death was how to close background applications on the iPhone 4, sucking the little battery life out of the device.

So, allow me to spare you the potential loss of speed and battery life your iPhone 4 may suffer in the future from tons of open apps.

In order to have the best performance on your iPhone 4, make sure to close the apps you don’t need in the background. To do this, simply follow these instructions:

1. Double tap your home button. When you double tap the home button your multitask view will appear.

2. Tap and hold the app icon you want to close, just as you would on the home screen to rearrange icons or delete an app.

3. Hold the app icon until a red “-” button appears in the left-hand corner of the icon.

4. To close the app, tap on the red button in the corner of the app you want to close. What I do as well is to close ALL of the apps I am not using. You will find that nearly every app you have ever opened will be open at this point (ah, no wonder your battery runs out so quickly huh?).

Now those battery sucking, memory and speed eating apps will actually be closed on your iPhone 4 (yea!).

Hope this helps, let me know by leaving a comment below if it did!

<img class="alignright size-full wp-image-664" title="iPhone Apps Image" src="http://billcrosby.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/iPhoneAppsImage.jpg" alt="iPhone productivity apps"width="276" height="182" />
The best thing about iPhone is the incredible world of apps its users can access and use, specifically apps that work to increase your personal productivity. But it’s easy to get lost in those hundreds of thousands of apps. That means finding the right apps to enhance your productivity could in itself be an immensely unproductive exercise if you don’t know what you are looking for.

Simplenote
Simplenote is a note taking solution that has received rave reviews from various corners of the tech world. Hence it’s iPhone app can be safely considered as one of the best when it comes to quickly jotting down text notes and keeping them organized.

Mint
Mint’s iPhone app is a must-have if you intend to be productive with your personal finances. It’s free to use and has a ton of features like easy budgeting, investment tracking, nice and detailed graphs, and many more that let you know what’s going on with your hard earned money.

Lucyphone
Don’t you feel frustrated when you are kept waiting for a long time in the call queue of a customer service department? Who wants to hold that long, right? Well, get Lucyphone on your iPhone and get rid of that problem. You just need to give them a number to call you back on. The app will do that when it can get a customer service rep on the call. Cool, isn’t it?

Remote
Apple’s remote app for iOS devices could come in extremely handy when you don’t want to manually shuffle songs in iTunes on your computer again and again. You could use it on occasions like a party at home, to quickly change music. Here’s a detailed guide on remote controlling iTunes using the iPhone Remote app. If you have Apple TV, you can use your iPhone as the remote to access your iTunes account on your TV.

Instapaper
Instapaper is undoubtedly one of my favorite services that I use every day. That makes its iPhone app one of my favorites too. It can make your daily dose of reading so much more productive.

Twitter’s iPhone App
For a long time I thought that Twitter’s official iPhone app is inferior to the other third-party Twitter apps out there. Turns out I was wrong. I discovered two months back that the official Twitter app has features that can make you much more productive while using Twitter on your iPhone. Make sure you give it a shot.

Dropbox
You’ve heard about Dropbox, haven’t you? Well, this online backup service has a pretty cool iPhone app too. It lets you easily access important files on your iPhone and also do a lot of other things. Do check it out.

ReQall
The ReQall iPhone app does many things but it’s mainly focused on reminders. And it’s really good at organizing the reminders and helping you know what you need to do at the right time.

Evernote
Evernote is without a doubt the most popular note-taking organizational tool out there. It has got some amazing features for sure, and it recently gave a complete overhaul to its iPhone app to make it better. It’s a must-have app for your iPhone.

TripDeck
When it comes to efficient and productive planning for your upcoming trip, the Tripdeck iPhone app really stands out. Be it organizing your travel itinerary, managing hotel reservations or flights, finding phone numbers that matter….it just has a lot to offer for the traveler.

Bump
Bump is one of the most innovative tools I’ve ever come across. If you are at a conference or a party, and want to share stuff like your contact details or photos with someone there who also has an iPhone, then using this app you could just bump your phones together and the sharing is taken care of. Cool and easy.

Jott
Finally, we’ve got Jott for iPhone that can quickly convert voice to text. You can send emails, take notes, post to Twitter and do much more, all using your voice. There are many more features that you’ll come to know once you start using the app.

And even without the iPhone factored in, 15 percent of AT&T customers said they would switch wireless providers in the next 90 days.

Solely among iPhone owners, an even higher number — 26 percent — said they planned to switch to Verizon to have the iPhone on the rival network.

By comparison, only 4 percent of Verizon Wireless customers said they planned to leave their carrier in the next three months. That was the best in the industry, beating the 10 percent who plan to leave Sprint, and 15 percent who want to ditch T-Mobile.

Of the customers who said they are likely to switch from AT&T, 42 percent said they planned to leave because of poor reception or coverage. We’re not talking about an iPhone 5, of course, this will be a version of the iPhone that has been adapted for Verizon’s network, and there isn’t any confirmation if the phone will support the carrier’s new 4G LTE network, though chances are that it won’t. With January 11th within touching distance, we won’t have to wait too long to find out if this rumor is true or not.

Despite the multiple breaches in Apple’s “impenetrable security,” we still know surprisingly little about what hardware or functionality the device will actually contain (the security managed to succeed somewhere). However, recent builds of the iPhone OS 4.0 beta have shed some light on what the newest member of the iPhone family will be packing under the hood.

Here at The Next Web, we’ve puzzled through the rumors and are pleased to offer you our take on what we think is going to be included in the newest iPhone.

AT&T Tethering

The most recent build of iPhone OS 4.0 appears to (finally) include Apple’s promised support for tethering on AT&T. Sure, it’s been possible to tether the iPhone in the US with a simple jailbreak (as our own Alex Wilhelm loves to remind me). But for the average iPhone user, putting your phone at risk of being bricked is not a practical option.

The Apple party line has consistently stated that it’s AT&T’s network, so it’s their choice on whether or not to allow tethering. Given that AT&T is staying mum, Apple may be forcing their hand.

In addition to forecasting more online shopping and showing the geographical distribution of Internet users, the study also shows a dramatic shift toward mobile web use.

Morgan Stanley’s analysts believe that, based on the current rate of change and adoption, the mobile web will be bigger than desktop Internet use by 2015.

The mobile wealth creation/destruction cycle is in its earliest stages. The proliferation of better devices and the availability of better data coverage are two trends driving growth; having better services and smaller, cheaper devices has led to a huge explosion in mobile technology that far outpaces the growth of any other computing cycle.
