ChangeWave on Thursday released the results of a survey of 4,050 U.S. wireless customers, conducted just before this week’s announcement that the iPhone 4 will arrive on Verizon’s network Feb. 10. The survey indicates more customers want to leave AT&T than in any other poll dating back to June of 2009.Of those surveyed who are AT&T customers, 16 percent said they would switch to Verizon if the competing carrier began offering the iPhone. And even without the iPhone factored in, 15 percent of AT&T customers said they would switch wireless providers in the next 90 days.

Solely among iPhone owners, an even higher number — 26 percent — said they planned to switch to Verizon to have the iPhone on the rival network.

By comparison, only 4 percent of Verizon Wireless customers said they planned to leave their carrier in the next three months. That was the best in the industry, beating the 10 percent who plan to leave Sprint, and 15 percent who want to ditch T-Mobile.

Of the customers who said they are likely to switch from AT&T, 42 percent said they planned to leave because of poor reception or coverage. Another 27 percent said the reason for their departure would be dropped calls. Just 17 percent said their main concern was the cost of AT&T’s service.

The Verizon iPhone rumors are going wild at the moment. Many Verizon subscribers have been screaming for a Verizon iPhone for years and the latest rumors are in. According to the rumors, a source that is familiar with the situation says that Verizon and Apple will be holding an event on January 11 in New York, where a CDMA version of the iPhone will be unveiled. We’ve previously heard rumors that it will be arriving at the end of January, but as long as it arrives this month, we’re not going to complain. We’re not talking about an iPhone 5, of course, this will be a version of the iPhone that has been adapted for Verizon’s network, and there isn’t any confirmation if the phone will support the carrier’s new 4G LTE network, though chances are that it won’t. With January 11^th within touching distance, we won’t have to wait too long to find out if this rumor is true or not.

With Apple’s World-Wide Developers’ Conference 2010 and the presumptive launch of iPhone 4 less than a month away, the Apple rumor mill is spinning at top speed.

Despite the multiple breaches in Apple’s “impenetrable security,” we still know surprisingly little about what hardware or functionality the device will actually contain (the security managed to succeed somewhere). However, recent builds of the iPhone OS 4.0 beta have shed some light on what the newest member of the iPhone family will be packing under the hood.

Here at The Next Web, we’ve puzzled through the rumors and are pleased to offer you our take on what we think is going to be included in the newest iPhone.

AT&T Tethering

The most recent build of iPhone OS 4.0 appears to (finally) include Apple’s promised support for tethering on AT&T. Sure, it’s been possible to tether the iPhone in the US with a simple jailbreak (as our own Alex Wilhelm loves to remind me). But for the average iPhone user, putting your phone at risk of being bricked is not a practical option.

The Apple party line has consistently stated that it’s AT&T’s network, so it’s their choice on whether or not to allow tethering. Given that AT&T is staying mum, Apple may be forcing their hand.

Foursquare the location based social network game is just about to release a new version of their iPhone application. The new application will feature a revamped interface, a brand new user tab, and a new checkin history view.

This version of the app – v1.6 – should be heading to the App Store soon. Nick Starr shared screenshots of it with us and we’ve included a few below so that you can see some of the new features.

Looking at the images from Foursquare 1.6, the first thing you’ll notice is that the interface has been totally revamped. The colors, icons and menu layout are all completely restyled and rearranged in a much more appealing manner.

According to hated-by-Jason Calacanis, comScore, 30.8% of smartphone users accessed social networking sites via their mobile browser in January 2010, which is 8.3 points more from one year ago. Facebook grew 112% in the past year, while Twitter experienced a 347% jump.

11.1% of all mobile phone users accessed a social networking site via mobile browser – an increase of 4.6 percentage points from the previous year. Unsurprisingly, much of this growth has been driven by smartphone owners – while 30.8% of smartphone users accessed social networking sites, only 6.8% of feature phone users did so.

In the same period, Facebook was accessed by 25.1 million, MySpace by 11.4 million and Twitter by 4.7 million mobile users. Best of all, these figures don’t include access of the social networking services by the nearly 6 million users who do so exclusively through mobile applications.
