<img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-1175" title="dofollowimage" src="http://billcrosby.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/dofollowimage-259x300.gif" alt="Allowing DoFollow"width="155" height="180" />Ok, I am taking a big leap of faith on this blog in that today I began allowing DoFollow links on comments and trackbacks. Why is this a leap of faith? Well, I already get TONS of spam bots sending over their junk comments by obvious amateurs who are clearly just buying the next easy commenting software. For the most part, Akismet picks these up well and I don’t have to deal with them. Obviously it is not my intention to increase this.

Rather, when reading a blog post today by a trusted blog and SEO software company, I came across a little note on their comment form about KeywordLuv. And, being the curious person I am, I clicked to find out what it was.

<img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1166" style="border-style: solid; border-color: black; border-image: initial; border-width: 1px;" title="KeywordLuv in action" src="http://billcrosby.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Picture-8.png" alt="Allowing DoFollow"width="440" height="80" />

Well, turns out this little plugin allows users to leave a comment AND get the anchor text link juice in the specific keyword set they want to link for by adding @Their Keyword to the end of their name (WordPress by default hyperlinks the name with whatever URL is entered in the URL field). Hmmm, sounds interesting!

Allowing DoFollow Links (Gulp)?

So, I read on and find out that you have to first open DoFollow links (gulp). I have never much wanted to do so, knowing this opens you to a greater flood of comment spam bots.In order to do this, another plugin is required (KeywordLuv doesn’t start allowing DoFollow on comments but leaves this to other plugins). I decided to use Smart DoFollow since it allows you to restrict the DoFollow for comments of a minimum number of characters (I decided on the default of 400 to start). Meaning, the commenter has to put in at least 400 characters before allowing DoFollow is turned on for the post. As well, I still have to moderate the comment before it goes live.

Allowing DoFollow Links, Step One, Get a Clean Slate

So, in order to have a good statistical start, I cleared out the few hundred comments awaiting moderation, and off we go with the test.<img class="size-full wp-image-1165 alignleft" style="border-image: initial; border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;" title="Cleared out the comments" src="http://billcrosby.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Picture-7.png" alt="Allowing DoFollow"width="386" height="109" />

The Test for Allowing DoFollow, What will happen?

So, here is the test. Will this, and you can chime in with your experience in the comments below, minimum 400 characters of course ):

Increase my comment traffic with real people looking to genuinely add value to the site and post?

Increase my spam comments to the point where I will quickly turn it off off and go back to normal business as usual?

Or, some combination of the two?

My plan is to track results and let you know…

What has been your experience allowing DoFollow on your blog?

On March 11th, 2011 (3 days ago) Facebook began eliminating their previous language for Facebook Page Design FBML which means we can no longer use FBML to build our fan pages. It also means we need to either learn the new iFrame framework, or get some nice iFrame templates to replace our existing ones!

Facebook Page Design: A Great Solution

You are probably like me, I have no time to learn the new iFrame. I need an URGENT replacement to my existing fan pages! I also need new iFrame templates for my business!

I fortunately was introduced to FBMaxed and it really saved me time! I got:

iFrame templates for instant Facebook page setup

Complete step-by-step video to setup the new iFrame! Easy to follow!

Documentation full with pictures, replaces the videos well when I don’t feel like watching!

LIVE webinar walkthroughs! They have done 2 so far, I liked both! Helped me a lot!

FBMaxed: Facebook Page Design Templates

These iFrames are so powerful, they are:

HTML5 compatible, that means, no problem viewing with iPhone, iPads, Android etc!

With a nice ‘Like & Reveal tab’ landing page! So my page can go viral!

Opt-in forms enabled, I can build list straight from within Facebook!

Supporting Videos, I can have videos hosted on my Facebook page!

Complete website built into Facebook with Unlimited pages!

See their sample Facebook page here:

CNBC Says FBMaxed for Facebook Page Design Templates

Photo remixed from Shutr.

Love it or hate it, tons of people still use iTunes to manage their music library. Maybe it’s because of your love for the iPod, the iTunes Music Store, or whatever—we’re not here to judge, we’re just here to help you make iTunes work better.

When you’re done with this guide, you’re iTunes library will automatically sync up with any music you download, whether it’s via BitTorrent, the web, or even Dropbox. The guide will walk through how to set up automatic music-to-iTunes syncing on both Windows and Mac.

How It Works

The basic set up is actually pretty simple. Apple quietly added an
Automatically Add to iTunes
folder in a recent release of iTunes 9, which means that, while iTunes still doesn’t support watching and syncing custom folders, it does give us a pretty slick avenue for hacking together our own solution. Here’s how it works:

Handwritten fonts are basically simulating a manuscript, or hand-drawn text. A manuscript is any document that is written by hand. The term may also be used for information that is hand-recorded in other ways than writing, for example inscriptions that are chiseled upon a hard material or scratched as with a knife point in plaster or with a stylus on a waxed tablet, or are in cuneiform writing, impressed with a pointed stylus in a flat tablet of unbaked clay.

But enough with the history. If you guys need a beautiful font for headers or short notes, go ahead and use one of the free handwritten fonts I put together for you below.
If your inbox looks like a bottomless pit of Twitter notices and mass forwards of cat pictures, then it might be time to do a little email spring cleaning and organizing. Bonus, inbox spring cleaning sprees don’t require rubber gloves or a jumbo bottle of Liquid Plumber.

Stepcase Lifehack breaks down the five types of emails you should automatically filter to keep your inbox tidy and unclogged. First, figure out how to filter emails through your webmail provider—both Outlook and Mac’s Mail have a fairly straight forward filtering system. So, now that you’ve figured out how to filter, what should you automatically sift? Here’s a few:

Email Newsletters — Put these in a “To Read” folder for later viewing.

Social Media Notifications — There’s nothing more distracting than Facebook and Twitter pings. One comment on your status update leads to 20 minutes of browsing.

Store Promos and Deals — Do you really need to know that the leopard-print Snuggie is 20% off in the middle of your work day?

Full list and a how-to on filtering at Stepcase Lifehack.

In my weekly mastermind group, we just learned today (thanks to Sean Malarkey) that you can simply change a .mov (Mac based video format) file to .flv (Flash based format) by just changing the file type. In order for this to work, the codec (fancy pants language for how the movie is rendered on your machine) needs to be H.264 (the Mac standard codec) which may seem like Greek to many, but if you have a newer Mac (in the last 3 years) it will be using this codec.

In this example, I show how simple this is to do (and what an incredible time saver it is to boot).

Check it out below:

Thanks for watching,
